Masałska’s recovery from a leg injury in Old Riga is one of the most legendary stories in sporting circles. At that time, Masalskis was playing in the Riga club “Dinamo” from the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), but his contract was terminated after the incident. Initially, the Riga club reported that v5-6 people attacked a security guard in old Riga, later, the police also received Masałski’s question, however, the version of the assault and severe beating that was heard was exaggerated.
Now Sorokin reveals that he himself was present at the legendary incident in Old Riga. The coach of Riga “Dinamo” at that time Julius Shupler it allowed hockey players to “run freely” and “relax”. Several hockey players used the coaching opportunity after a full schedule, but the most enduring were Masalskis, Sorokins, and Girt Ankipan.
According to Sorokin, the incident occurred at the “Roxy” club, Kalķu iela 24, but earlier the hockey players were celebrating in the opposite entertainment venue “Mad House”. Pretty drunk hockey players were tricked by the girls outside into the “Roxy” club, but the “Dinamo” hockey players from Riga did not want to enter.
“Word after word, someone pushed something… About five guys walked by, they were also “fed up”. And they saw – “hey, the girl was insulted there”. And the fight started, it wasn’t not even really a fight. For Ankipán, he was in such a “heap” – he shot him once in the mouth, he fell and was there for three minutes. Masalskis fought with the boy, but both “nothing”. Somehow falls on his leg and then the fight was over,” recalls Sorokin.
After pushing, Masalskis complained that his leg hurt, but Sorokin reassured him that nothing was wrong. The hockey players called a taxi, but the municipal police also arrived while they were waiting. The athletes refused to help, but Sorokin allegedly “loaded Masalski into a taxi.” The goalkeeper was carried home by Sorokin, who carried Masalski on his shoulder like a bag.
