India wants to host the Olympics in 2036. Then there could be competitions in the second largest sports arena in the world.
India has previously hosted the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, but the world’s second most populous nation has never hosted an Olympic Games.
This could change. Because in 2036 India plans to bid for the Summer Olympics, according to the country’s sports minister Anurag Thakur.
– This is the right time to organize games. India is making progress in every sector from manufacturing to services, why not in sports too? India is looking very seriously at bid for the 2036 Olympics, Thakur told the Times of India, quoted by TT news agency.
Thakur says the Olympics in India should be held in the cities of Gujarat and Ahmedabad.
In Ahmedabad there is the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, which seats 132,000 spectators. According to the official website of the Olympics, it is the second largest arena in the world after an arena in North Korea.
In the past there have been reports of Olympic interest from countries such as Qatar, Egypt, England and Indonesia, writes TT.
In 2024, the Summer Olympics will be held in Paris in Frankincense, in 2028 in Los Angeles in the United States and in 2032 in Brisbane in Australia.
