Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley turned 31.
A family representative confirms Rolling stone The grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley and son of Stephen Marley died on Tuesday.
The cause of death is currently unknown.
Marley has self-released EPs and debut albums and has appeared on stage with his father Stephen.
In an earlier interview with Rolling Stone, Marley talked about growing up in a musical environment.
– I could have gone home to do my homework, but I ended up distracted and looking in the studio. You always wanted to go in and out to see what was going on.
At the same time, it was also clear that he wanted to shape his own path within the music and that he wanted to “do something new with his roots”.
– I’m from the new Marley generation, but I also want to experiment, he said.
Jamaican politician Mark J. Golding is one of those mourning Marley’s death on Twitter:
“I have just learned of the tragic loss of Joseph ‘Jo Mersa’ Marley. A talented young reggae artist, son of Stephen Marley and grandson of Bob Marley at just 31 years old. The loss of a child is terrible and something no parent should have to go through, my condolences to Stephen and all the family.” he writes.
