Despite being included in the Twenty20 squad against Sri Lanka, Malayalee player Sanju Samson was left out of the ODI squad. Despite his brilliant performance in the ODI format in 2022, the star is set to come out in the new year.
Star scored 284 runs in nine innings for India during the season. Of these five times the note is Ot. However, the Indian leadership keeps ignoring the star which angers the fans. As it is the year of the ODI World Cup the 50 over match should be of more importance than the T20. However, the player was included in the Twenty20 squad.
Even when Rishabh Pant did not play in the ODI squad against Sri Lanka, Sanju was not included which shocked the fans. Instead, BCCI included Ishan Kishan as wicket-keeper batsman. KL as a backup. And Raul. Though Rahul is no ordinary wicket keeper, he was a star behind the wicket in the match against Bangladesh.
Sanju supporters and fans are protesting the BCCI’s decision to drop the wicketkeeper-batsman from the ODI squad. So far, Sanju has played 11 ODIs for India. Ten of them are this year. He last played against New Zealand on 25 November. He scored 36 runs off 38 balls.
“When BCCI was preparing T20 squad for 2022 World Cup, they kept Sanju Samson for ODI, now while preparing ODI squad for 2023 World Cup, they moved Sanju to T20 squad” – Deendayal Yadav posted on Twitter. ‘Why are they doing this to Sanju Samson over and over!!!!!!’ – says another tweet.
Another fan asks how Sanju Samson could be left out of the ODI squad. Minister V suspected a clear plot behind Sanju’s exclusion from the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Shivankutty replied. The minister also wrote on Facebook that Malayalee Sanju Samson is a player who can be played anywhere in the batting order.
Critics also point out that Sanju is only considered when sending the second-tier squad into sets where senior players including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are rested.
