FLY – Ukraine’s proposal for a so-called “peace summit” would not have succeeded if Russia had not been invited.

Russia’s Deputy First Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky confirmed this on Tuesday (12/27/2022).

Writing in Telegram, the diplomat referred to the idea floated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba on Monday of holding such an event under the auspices of the United Nations in late February, on the anniversary of the Russian military operation against the Ukraine.

The office of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it was ready to mediate the talks, but only if all sides agreed.

However, Kuleba also demanded that before Moscow can join the negotiating table, Russia must face an “international tribunal” and be prosecuted for its alleged war crimes.

Polyansky also rejected Kiev’s accusations that Russia would become an “illegal” member of the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations at large.

He denounced such claims as “nonsense” that no one paid attention to.

“If you try to combine these two stories, they are mutually exclusive. what ‘peace summit’ could take place without Russia?” she asked, adding however that it was not difficult to imagine such an event taking place without Ukraine.
