- Last year there were 5 victims
- Three died after an attack on Shumen
10 people died during the weekends of December 23-26 in accidents, according to Interior Ministry data. They are therefore double those who died in road accidents on Christmas Day, when there were 5.
Statistics also show that 66 serious accidents with 77 injuries occurred during the period. A year earlier, the figures were almost the same: there were 64 hits and 83 wounded.
The start of the black stats was given on Friday evening. At around 21:15 in Shumen, near the Tombul Mosque, three people were killed after a car crash. Driving was a 24-year-old boy, two girls aged 13 and 16. The car swerved, crossed the dividing island, and ended up in the oncoming lane, where it hit a light pole. The driver and the younger girl died instantly, the other student later died of her injuries in hospital. The young man had a driving license, there is no evidence that he drank alcohol or drove under the influence of drugs. Experts will clarify why he lost control of the wheel.
On the same day last year there were no deaths, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior. However, there were 19 serious crashes, two more than last year, and 24 injuries, seven more than last year.
There were 2 fatalities on Christmas Eve both years. On the first day of Christmas – December 25, however, this year four people died in 15 accidents and 21 were injured. In the pandemic year 2021, there were 10 accidents and injuries and no fatalities.
From 4:00 pm on December 25 to the same time on the 26th, 37 people were caught drinking while driving. More than 2/3 of them – 20 drivers – have provided samples above 1.2ppm of blood alcohol and will be prosecuted. Same fate for the 9 caught driving under the influence of drugs. Data for my no, since the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been publishing public reports on drunks and drug addicts since the beginning of July of this year. The campaign began after Georgi Semerdzhiev killed two girls in Sofia.
And Stefanov’s day did not pass without victims: in the afternoon near Parvomai, a woman died after a head-on collision with a truck in an oncoming traffic, her daughter is in the hospital. A day earlier in the Targovishte region, a man traveling alone went off the road and did not survive the impact.
For the 26th holiday there were a total of 17 serious accidents with 21 injuries. In 2021, 3 people died on this date. There were 3 more crashes and 28 injuries in total.
The Home Office says the data is dynamic and it is possible that some will be removed from the black statistics for those who have lost their lives en route – for example, if they died of a heart attack and then crashed. As well as being added if some of the wounded do not survive.
A total of 515 people have died in accidents in our country since the beginning of the year. That’s still 37 fewer than the same time last year.
