Huybrechts creates a stir and knocks out defending champion Wright at World Cup Darts | Darts

Kim Huybrechts caused buzz at the World Darts Championship on Tuesday by knocking out defending champion Peter Wright in the third round. The Belgian defeated the two-times Scottish world champion 4-1 and will meet a well-known figure in the round of 16.

Huybrechts and Wright were close to each other in London’s Alexandra Palace. The 37-year-old Belgian, number 31 in the world rankings, has always struck in the decisive moments.

Initially, there were no problems for Wright. The 2020 and 2022 world champion, who is second in the world rankings, broke his opponent in the first leg and led the first set 3-0.

Then the 52-year-old Scotsman’s engine began to falter and Huybrechts’ gaze became more and more fanatic. The second set went 3-0 to “The Hurricane”. In the following companies, the game’s image fluctuated up and down, but Huybrechts always came out on top. He finished the job via double-18.

In the end, Huybrechts, who has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at his World Cup debut in 2012, averaged 91.50 points. Wright averaged 91.28 runs against this one. Even the double percentages (35.2 for Huybrechts, 32 for Wright) differed little.

Huybrechts will play compatriot Dimitri Van den Bergh in the round of 16. Earlier in the day, “The DreamMaker” dealt with Polish Krzysztof Ratajski.
