As the prime suspect was charged and placed in custody, Aymen’s brother, who was killed aged 14 following the France-Morocco match, confided in the relief felt by his family and loved ones.
“First of all, it’s a relief to know that he has been arrested,” Aymen’s older brother Said Rabhi testified to BFMTV, killed by a vehicle on the sidelines of the celebrations around the World Cup match. Montpellier, the night between 14 and 15 December.
This Tuesday afternoon, after being arrested near Perpignan, the suspect was indicted in particular for “intentional violence with a weapon which caused death without intending to give it”, and placed in pre-trial detention. He also received the second charge of “intentional violence with a weapon resulting in a total interruption of work exceeding eight days”.
The arrest of the 20-year-old “removes a burden” from the 14-year-old’s family and loved ones.
“Hope for Justice”
“I have hope in police, law enforcement and justice because all we want is for justice to be done,” said Said Rabhi on our antenna.
Placed in judicial detention pending trial, the suspect faces 20 years in prison for charges withheld during the indictment.
“We are waiting for him to get the maximum sentence for this drama”, commented Aymen’s brother who is “still in mourning” and “will never forget this little one”.
A new invitation to calm
After the tragedy, the threat of inter-communal clashes still lingers in the south of France, the suspect is a resident gypsy.
Ayden’s older brother has already repeatedly asked for calm on behalf of his family. He did it again on BFMTV this Tuesday.
He also denounced “rumors” on social networks whose purpose was to aggravate the situation. “There were a lot of voices that didn’t come from our neighborhood or our city to try and connect us with the gypsy community,” she said.
