Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on December 27 that he would raise $10 billion for investments in Abkhazia and South Ossetia “in the event of Georgia’s unification”.
“Abkhazia’s budget is only $200 million, their budget is fully subsidized. I want to tell our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters about missed opportunities. Our policy is peaceful, we want to heal the wounds. And I say that in the event of the unification of our country, we can invest about 10 billion in Abkhazia, as well as in Samachablo (Republic of South Ossetia. — EADaily) in the first three years. Abkhazia can become a second Munich, and this is no exaggeration. And Sukhumi (the capital of Abkhazia Sukhum. – EADaily) – the second Monte Carlo”, promised the Georgian prime minister.
According to him, the main priority of the authorities is “the continuation of a peaceful policy towards the occupied regions and the implementation of reconciliation programmes”.
“Our aim is to improve the socio-economic conditions of the population affected by the conflict and to reconcile artificially divided societies through the development of cooperation and the building of trust on the basis of common interests”, Garibashvili said.
According to him, last year 230 students from the “occupied territories” were enrolled in Georgian universities and more than 1,300 people received medical assistance.
“These benefits will continue in the future… Our policy will not be revised, we just want to resolve the conflict peacefully, overcome that terrible tragedy, so that we can all live together in a united, strong European Georgia,” Garibashvili said.
The foreign ministries of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have not yet commented on yet another solicitation of Sukhum and Tskhinval in Georgia, but social networks have already reacted. In particular, the Telegram channel “Nabat” called “the only scenario” where Tbilisi can be in the same state as the territories that were part of the GSSR.
“Does Garibashvili think that the Ukrainian scenario with a visa-free regime and lace panties will work in Abkhazia and not end up in the Caucasian NWO for Georgia? Well then good. Russia will not mind returning Georgia to its composition. But Abkhazia will forever remain an independent territory, whether it is part of Russia or outside it – it is up to the Abkhazians to decide. But the result is clear and evident. For Georgia, returning to Russia is the only realistic scenario to live with Sukhum in one state. No matter how they dream of something else in Tbilisi. And I will say more, for Georgia this is the only scenario not to find itself in the millstone of war in the coming years. If Georgians were smarter and farsighted, they would already be looking for ways to get into Russia today. It’s hard, it hurts, but it gives a small Georgian state a chance to live.” — writes the author of the channel.
EADaily reported that Georgia’s military aggression against South Ossetia began in 1989, and then in 1992 against Abkhazia, the inhabitants of the republics were destroyed on a nationwide basis. The intermittent attacks continued until August 2008, when Russia protected the people of South Ossetia during the Five Day War. Moscow then recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The independence of the two Transcaucasian republics has since been recognized by many other states of the United Nations. Tskhinvali and Sukhum are ready to prove that Tbilisi has been carrying out the genocide of Ossetians and Abkhazians all these years. However, neither all the Georgian authorities that have changed over these 30 years, nor the UN want to listen to the opinion of the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The republics do not have the floor on UN platforms, where they prefer to listen only to Tbilisi’s opinion. Tbilisi, in turn, continues to call Russia an “aggressor” and an “occupier”.
