New York will have its first electric taxis in 2025, according to the North American company Archer Aviation, responsible for the order for United’s 100 eVTOL units, to connect Newark airport with the helipad of the Battery Park building, located in downtown of the city Manhattan

With these electric taxis, users will be able to save up to an hour on the journey, since during peak hours of vehicular traffic, it takes more than an hour to reach the airport. “We are thrilled to confirm New York as the first of many routes we will be announcing alongside United as we work to grow our nationwide UAM network,” said Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer, according to ABC.

Archer will certify Midnight with the FAA by the end of 2024, then use it as part of its UAM network that it expects to launch in 2025. “We believe our strategy and the team’s ability to execute it have allowed us to establish our leadership position in the market, which is why we are confident that we will be the first company to certify an eVTOL aircraft in the United States with the FAA,” said Goldstein.

Midnight combines electric propulsion technology with state-of-the-art aeronautical systems. “The highly redundant and streamlined propulsion systems make the aircraft significantly safer than a helicopter. The electric motors used have fewer moving parts than those found in a gas turbine or piston engine, which allows them to operate with less maintenance and lower overall risk,” as recorded by the same media outlet.

as reported REPORTUR.itIn August, United invested $10 million in 100 Archer Aviation electric flying taxis for zero-emission urban air mobility (UAM). Rates will be on par with Uber Black, said Michael Leskinen, president of United Airlines Ventures. (United invests in electric cabs with fares on par with Uber Black.)
