Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Brunei coach Mario Rivera joked about the familiarity Shin Ta Yong with linesman Kang Dong Ho in Brunei vs Indonesian national team in the event AFF Cup 2022.
Rivera stressed the closeness between the line judge and Shin Tae Yong. Rivera said the two figures, both from South Korea, were seen laughing together in the middle of the match.
Rivera deemed it inappropriate to be shown in an official match. Earlier, Rivera also insinuated the behavior of the referee who asked the Brunei goalkeeper to take a goal kick faster at the start of the match.
Rivera then expressed his disgust at the game’s governing body with a grin.
“It’s incredible, they don’t respect football, they don’t respect the players. Maybe they’re from South Korea, they can talk to each other, but obviously they shouldn’t be laughing during the match.”
“Maybe right now they meet and go to a South Korean restaurant and the Indonesian coach is paying. To me this is unbelievable,” Rivera said at a post-match press conference.
Rivera then said that the development of football in Southeast Asia could be hampered by the questionable quality of referees.
“Sometimes we think that football in ASEAN cannot develop due to problems like this. We may think that the level of Korean football is good, but if this is the level of Korean referees like this, obviously it can’t develop.”
