Leids Cabaret Festival cancelled, too few talented applicants

Leids Cabaret Festival organizers pull the plug on the 44th edition of the talent show for comedians. No candidates have come forward for whom the festival could be the “last push” to succeed.

“We have to have the idea that this is potentially possible and that we are curious about someone’s professional development within the festival process and beyond,” the organization tells NOS.

It is the first time in the Leids Cabaret Festival’s 44-year history that the event cannot take place because there are no suitable candidates. In 2021 the festival was canceled due to corona.

In the past, several Flemish comedians launched their careers at the large Leiden caberet festival. Alex Agnew won the competition in 2003 and in 2008 the Flemish duo For the Protection of Youth took home the main prize. Iwein Segers won the Audience Award in 2008. Wim Helsen’s place in the final of the Leids Cabaret Festival 2002 was also the start of a great career.
