Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Record alcohol sales at Christmas in Kerala. Liquor worth Rs 229.80 crore was sold in the state on 22nd, 23rd and 24th December. 215.49 crore same day sales last year. Rum is the main seller. On Christmas Day alone, 89.52 crore worth of liquor was sold.
On the same day last year 90.03 crore worth of liquor was sold. 68.48 lakh was the main outlet at Bawridges outlet in Kollam Ashram. The second is Powerhouse Road outlet Thiruvananthapuram with a turnover of 65.07 lakh. The Iringalakuda outlet ranks third with a turnover of 61.49 lakh.
Bavridges Corporation has 267 outlets. Bavridges Corporation has decided to open 175 new outlets and reopen 68 outlets that had been closed for various reasons to ease congestion. Its activities are ongoing. Officials say they are having difficulty finding suitable stores due to local objections.
