Alcaraz shoes return to New York

The designer sneakers with which Carlos Alcaraz won the US Open last September they were auctioned for 2,205 euros and flew back to New York, where the anonymous citizen who won the tender resides.

The young player from Murcia, 19 years old and number 1 in the world, who has a tattoo of the words with which his grandfather encourages him, “head, heart and balls”, has donated his shoes to the Association of people with Down syndrome (Assido ) to help allocate the proceeds, around 10,000 euros in total, to various inclusive culture and leisure projects in 2023.

The auction ended with some hectic final moments given the interest in getting hold of the objects that were part of it and that were collected more than 10,000 euros.

“Once again, our ambassador Carlos Alcaraz demonstrates his commitment to the people of his land and the people of Murcia who need it most, by helping to carry out many life projects of people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities and by spreading the values ​​of Assido all over the world”, indicated the president of the association, Víctor Martínez.

“I’m a big fan of Carlitos, it’s fantastic” (“I’m a big fan of Carlitos, this is fantastic”), said the winner of the sport, who prefers to remain anonymous, according to Assido, founded in Murcia in 1981, the second most oldest association for Down syndrome in Spain, with more than 400 users and three centres.
