Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government assures that petrol-grade fuel oil (BBM) with an octane number (RON) of 88 or the equivalent Premium will disappear from the market. This policy will go into effect in the next few days, January 1, 2023 to be exact.
Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) Tutuka Ariadji explained that this policy was taken by the government considering many things. One of them is the world’s growing awareness of its surroundings.
“Yes, so of course we also have to pay attention to the world as these environmental specifications are getting higher and higher, we are moving from Euro 4 to Euro 5 standards. So starting next year there will be officially no RON 88, so 90 and above (Pertalite ) (which can be sold)),” Tutuka said in the CNBC Indonesia Energy Corner on Monday (12/26/2022).
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had previously stated that the octane rating of fuel below 90 RON would be phased out on January 1, 2023. In this way, BBMs below 90 RON, including Premium RON 88 belonging to Pertamina and Revvo petrol stations 89 belonging to Vivo petrol stations, may no longer be on the market as of early 2023.
However, Pertalite RON 90 fuel will still be on the market. Given, this type of fuel has met the standards and quality (specifications).
“Not cleared (Pertalite),” Directorate-General for Oil and Gas Environmental and Technical Director Mirza Mahendra told CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday (7/9/2022).
Mirza said the product sold at the Vivo gas station, Revvo 89, actually met the characteristics of the Ron 88 itself. Therefore, this product will be included in the next BBM list which will be removed after Premium.
At least, PT Vivo Energi Indonesia has until the end of 2022 to sell BBM Revvo 89 products. This is because, starting January 1, 2023, the government will ban the sale of BBM with an octane rating lower than 90 RON.
“As of January 1, 2023, the gasoline-powered Type 88 will not be marketed nationwide from that date,” Mirza said.
PT Vivo Energi Indonesia admits that it will not sell Ron 89 (BBM) fuel oil, i.e. Revvo 89. This follows the government’s decision to ban the sale of low-octane fuel at gas stations in the near future.
Management said the government had decided to abolish the sale of low-octane fuel on December 31, 2022. Therefore, in order to comply with this policy, the company plans to phase out Revvo 89 shares first.
“In order to comply with government policies, PT Vivo Energy Indonesia has taken the necessary steps to finish our Revvo 89 supplies by the end of this year,” management said in a written statement quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday ( 6/9/2022).
