President of Russia Vladimir Putin he said he was “100 percent confident” that his forces would destroy the most advanced air defense system in the United States. Missile system Patriot was promised by US President Joe Biden to be delivered to Ukraine.
“Of course we will destroy it, 100%!” Putin said in a television interview RussiaRossiya-1 on Sunday (12/25), as reported by a news agency AFP extensionMonday (26/12/2022).
Previously, Putin had underestimated the system Patriot missiles to be supplied to Ukraine. Putin called the air defense system “pretty old” and assured that Moscow could find ways to counter the system.
“As for the Patriot, it’s a fairly old system and it won’t be able to surpass our S-300 missile system,” Putin said as quoted by CNN.
“Those who fight it think it’s a defensive weapon, that’s what they say. However, that’s just their thoughts. We’ll always find a way to fight it,” he added.
Patriot, short for “Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept of Target”, this surface-to-air missile system was developed by the aerospace and defense conglomerate United States of AmericaRaytheon, from the 60s.
Initially this system was developed to repel fighter aircraft at high altitudes. However, in the 1980s it was modified to counter the new threats of that era, namely tactical ballistic missiles.
