Russian Deputy Prime Minister: Prepare to resume gas supply to European supplier FX678 via Yamal-Europe pipeline

Russian Deputy Prime Minister: Ready to resume gas supply to Europe through Yamal-Europe pipeline

Moscow is ready to resume gas supplies to Europe via the Yamal-Europe pipeline, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Sunday.

In his latest speech, Novak underlined that “since the shortage of natural gas persists, the European market remains important and we have every possibility to restore supply”.

“For example, the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which was shut down for political reasons, remains unused,” he added.

The “Yamal-Europe pipeline” runs from Russia in the east, through Belarus and Poland, and transports natural gas to Germany. However, since December 18, 2021, when Poland stopped buying natural gas from Russia and switched to using natural gas stored in Germany, the Poland-Germany section of the “Yamal-Europe” gas pipeline is in a state of anti- transport- transportation of gas from Germany to Poland .

In May, Russia announced a ban on any cooperation between Gazprom and EuRoPol GAZ, which owns the Polish section of the line, because Poland was one of the first countries to refuse to accept the Kremlin’s ruble payment for the pipeline.

In his latest speech, Novak also reiterated that Russia has also held consultations on increasing gas supplies through Turkey following the establishment of a gas hub in Turkey.

He also said that the EU market remained open to Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). He said that in the 11 months of 2022, Russia’s LNG supply to Europe increased to 19.4 bcm and is expected to reach 21 bcm by the end of the year.
