Scientists find 2 new planets suitable for human life

Jakarta

Scientists have found two of them planet suitable for human habitation. Through instruments called Carmenes and Espresso, this planet is seen near the Sun.

The newly discovered planet orbits the star GJ 1002. This star is less than 16 light-years from the Sun.

These two planets are also said to have a mass similar to Earth. It’s also in the habitable zone.

Two planet it takes 10 days to orbit GJ 1002b together. Meanwhile, the star GJ 1002c takes more than 21 days.

“GJ 1002 is a red dwarf star, with a mass of almost one eighth of the Sun. This star is quite cold and faint. This means that its habitable zone is very close to the star,” explained Vera María Passegger, author of the article and researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) on the ScienceDaily website.

The proximity of the star to the Sun means that the two planets have very good atmospheres. In the article titled Two temperate Earth-mass planets orbiting the near star GJ 1002 published in the Journal of Astronomy & Astrophysics, the name of this found planet was not determined.

Observed by Espresso and Carmenes

The discovery was made during a collaboration between a consortium of two tools Espresso and Carmenes. GJ 1002 was observed by Carmenes between 2017 and 2019 and by Espresso between 2019 and 2021.

“Because of its low temperature, visible light from GJ 1002 is too weak to measure its changes in velocity with most spectrographs,” said Ignasi Ribas, researcher at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) and director of the Institut d’Estudis. Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC). .

Carmenes is sensitive to a broad range of near infrared wavelengths. It is also superior to other spectrographs at detecting speed changes bintang.

In combination with Espresso and the light-gathering power of ESO’s VLT 8m telescope, it allows measurements to be made with an accuracy of only 30 cm/s. According to Science Daily, this accuracy cannot be achieved with any other instrument in the world.
