Omani MP Ahmed Al-Barwani has offered Argentine footballer Lionel Messi one million dollars for the bisht received after the end of the final match at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani handed him the traditional Arab robes shortly before the Argentine, in the position of team captain, was awarded the golden trophy for his triumph over France after the 11-minute penalty.

Messi was declared the best player of the final match and of the whole tournament. Argentina won the World Cup for the first time since 1986. “On behalf of the Sultanate of Oman, I congratulate you on winning the World Cup. The Arab bisht is a symbol of nobility and wisdom. I offer you one million dollars for it”, Al-Barwani wrote on Twitter.

He later told thenationalnews.com he was willing to negotiate the final amount, adding that if he gets the bisht, it will be “displayed to commemorate this moment of pride. I was at the stadium and watched live when the Emir of Qatar delivered over the bisht to Messi. This moment showed the world that we are here and this is our culture.”
