As Lukasz Greinke explained, coal arrives at the port of Gdansk, i.e. from Indonesia, South Africa or South America. – 12 million tons of coal have been reloaded so far. We can see that we are able to reload around 400,000 tons. tons per week. At the moment, exports are balanced with what we reload on board, so today we don’t recognize the risk of congestion in our terminals, i.e. building up enough inventories that will make it impossible for us to accept new cargo from onboard. This outflow of goods is also assured, she said.
This was indicated by the president of the port of Gdansk the docks where units with this feedstock are moored are crucial for efficient handling and further distribution of coal. – We have the Ore Pier in the North Port for 100,000m ocean liners. In turn, for smaller units – up to 50 thousand. tons, are Dworzec Drzewny Quay and Rudowe Quay. There we are able to handle four vessels at a time, but at least one must have its own unloading facilities. However, this situation will change, because our sister company PG Eksploatacja expects two more new devices in June and July (Liebherr crane LHM 550 – editorial note), so these handling capabilities on board will increase even more. We will be able to unload ships arriving in our port simply faster – he noted.
He explained that the year 2022 at the Port of Gdansk was marked by many key investments. Among them, he mentioned road and railway project behind the Przemyśl quay, modernization of the navigable channel, expansion of the quays and improvement of navigation conditions in the inner port. – Meanwhile, we were preparing the tender procedures for the next investment prospect. Quays: Bytomskie, Rudowe, Wiślane, Węglowe, are the investments we want to make in the Inner Port in the coming years – he stressed.
He added that the biggest operational challenge in 2022 was the increase in reloads and vessel traffic in quantities that were not present in the port of Gdansk so far. “We handled it very well. We are constantly refining the operational processes we have at the port in order to make them even more efficient and further increase our capacity,” said the President of the Port of Gdansk.
