Wout Weghorst proved his worth at Besiktas as the Turkish league resumed on Sunday. In the away match against Gaziantep FK, the Orange-internationals made up for the disadvantage in the final stage: 1-1.
Gaziantep, current number ten in the Süper Lig, took the lead after seventy minutes thanks to a goal by Brazilian striker João Figueiredo.
Weghorst secured an equalizer just in time with a header in the cross. The striker also scored a goal this week in Besiktas’ cup win against Sanliurfaspor (4-2).
Weghorst was also twice accurate in his last international match against Argentina in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Because of his goals, the Netherlands forced extra time, but the team still lost to the next world champion in a decisive penalty shootout.
Besiktas are seventh in the Turkish league, six points behind leaders Fenerbahçe.
