The TV show is filled with fairy tales during the Christmas holidays, and every year the repertoire of Czech cinematography is expanded by a new addition. Tonight, Czech television will present the film The Secret of Krakonoš with David Švehlík in the lead role. Would you recognize him in a mountain lord costume?

He ranks among the leading Czech actors, as evidenced by the fact that he appears on screens practically all the time. His most recent successes include, for example, the ten-part comedy series Gumy, where he starred alongside Richard Krajč. On Christmas day, the native of Liberec will appear as the protagonist in the new fairy tale Krakonoš’s secret. But be careful, Peter Bebjak’s film has nothing to do with the famous evening show from the seventies.

Good old Večerníček

Krkonoše fairy tales, broadcast between 1974 and 1984, belong to the national treasure. The characters of Anča, Kuba and Hajný were immediately appreciated by the Czech audience, while the avid Trautenberk did not find their taste. And since in fairy tales good must triumph over evil, he has always received a lesson from Krakonoš, the honest protector of the mountains. František Peterka played him in the series, he shot the first episode at the age of 52. And the representative of the new Krakonosh is of a similar age. Although David Švehlík doesn’t look like it at all, he celebrated his 50th birthday in April.

A stellar cast

Compared to František Peterka’s costume, David Švehlík is a little more chic in the role of Krakonoš. Apparently, the shorter beard, which looks like it has just been trimmed by a professional barber, is also to blame. You will enjoy a truly stellar cast in the new fairy tale. In addition to David Švehlík, Jakub Prachař will also play in the film (by the way, nephew of representative Trautenberg from the aforementioned evening series), Ondřej Sokol, Diana Mórová, Leona Skleničková or Dominka Morávková-Zeleníková.

A dream role

David Švehlík admits that Krakonoš was his childhood hero. If you want to see how he coped with the lead role, tune in to the program on ČT1 today from 20:10. We have no doubts that the actor known from the films Roman for Women (2004), Angel of the Lord (2005), Rules of Lies (2006), Smiles of Sad Men (2018), Privok, Šampón, Dot and Karel (2021 ) o Like Summer Snow (2021) performed fantastically as in the series Therapy (2011-2019), Kriminálka Anděl (2008-2014) or Život a doba soudce AK (2014-2017).
