Hokkaido Electric Power today announced that 19,500 households experienced power outages, mainly in northern Hokkaido, at 9:00am.
In Monbetsu City, Hokkaido, a power transmission line tower collapsed on the 23rd, causing power outages in 13,000 households across the city, and 26,000 households in Hokkaido experienced power outages.
The power supply was restored yesterday afternoon, but as of 9:20 today, a large-scale power outage again occurred in 13,000 households in Monbetsu city.
Deaths from heavy snow also followed.
Yesterday in Engarucho, Hokkaido, an 80-year-old woman died buried in the snow near her door, and on the 23rd, a 70-year-old woman was found buried in the snow near her home in Bibai, Hokkaido.
The meteorological agency said that although the peak of heavy snowfall has passed, there is a possibility of freezing roads and avalanches, especially in northern Japan.
