“We feel collateral damage from this crisis. Both Ukraine and Russia are good friends [Ķīnai], so we don’t want to choose between friends. This is the starting point of our position,” the ambassador said in an interview with the “South China Morning Post”.

“This crisis has put us in a very difficult position politically.”

The ambassador admitted that the war in Ukraine “has created a lot of tension” in China’s relations with Europe. He called the war in Ukraine a “so-called special operation,” “because that’s exactly what the Russians called it.”

“On the second day after this operation started, there was an important telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi [Dzjiņpinu] and [Krievijas] President [Vladimiru] Putin, and during this conversation, President Xi clearly expressed his desire for a peaceful solution (..) 10 months later, the facts show that China does not provide military assistance to Russia. In fact, our position has been quite balanced, you have to agree, and we are ready to participate in any peace efforts,” Fu said.

The ambassador also said that the United States “profits from this crisis” by selling weapons and making money at the expense of Europe’s energy crisis.

“The most important thing is to stop hostilities, to reach a ceasefire to save lives and we will support all efforts to do this. We know that some countries or some people in certain countries do not want to see an end to hatred and we do not think that is right,” Fu said.

Asked if he believed the United States did not want to see the war end, Fu said, “This is our assessment.”
