Local media reported that the match between Al-Ahly and Alexandria’s Al-Ittihad in the Egyptian Basketball Super Cup was canceled after part of the stands in Hassan Mustafa Hall in 6 October City where Al-Ittihad fans gathered crowded, collapsed, causing some injuries yesterday, Saturday.

And Egypt’s health ministry announced that 27 people were injured in the collapse, and ministry spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said in a statement that the initial inventory of the crash indicated injuries included fractures and bleeding, adding that most of them were “not life threatening”.

The ministry announced that 21 ambulances are helping to transport the injured to hospitals.

The match is stopped

The game stopped at the end of the third quarter, and Al-Ittihad of Alexandria led 67-45.

Reports stated that an iron fence collapsed on the fans, two ambulances arrived for some injuries and the fans called for the match to be cancelled.

Although the Egyptian Basketball Federation has not officially announced the cancellation of the match, the lights in the hall have been turned off amid speculation about the departure of the two teams.
