This week a man was arrested in Winterwijk who turns out to be a fugitive Ukrainian. Gelderland writes that the 50-year-old man, arrested on Thursday evening, escaped from a mental institution in Bedburg-Hau at the end of October. The newspaper relies on police sources.
After escaping, on October 31 in the German town of Vreden near Winterswijk, he threatened a motorist with a Stanley knife. The driver was forced to get out, after which the Ukrainian took off in the car. The vehicle was later found in Renkum, but the man remained without a trace until this week.
Air gun
The Ukrainian was arrested on Thursday after a burglary in Winterswijk, reports the regional newspaper. Police found an air pistol.
The man is now trapped. The judge has to decide whether he will be handed over to the police in Germany.
The Ukrainian was hospitalized in the Bedburg-Hau clinic after a conviction and is considered dangerous. After his escape, an intensive search for the man was conducted around Arnhem and in the border region.
