ANNOUNCEMENTS

An unknown benefactor distributed money to Banco Alimentare IJmond. He left a total of 170 envelopes, each containing 50 euros. A hand written note inside the envelope reads “Live and let live and a healthy 2023”.

Marjolein Zandbergen of Food Bank IJmond knows the generous donor personally, she adds NH News.

But she is the only one. “She contacted me with a message as to why she’d like to give him this,” says Zandbergen. According to her, the anonymous benefactor comes from Heemskerk and says she earned his money by “working very hard, getting lucky and never giving up.” He also recommends that he “think of someone else who’s really struggling. We all benefit from it.”

Banco Alimentare IJmond consists of four branches; Beverwijk, Castricum, Heemskerk and Uitgeest. Together, these locations have 167 attendees, so there’s a treat for everyone. Pouches have been added to food parcels. The reactions to the donation have been heartwarming, says Zandbergen. “Some customers were really in tears.”

A tidy man in a blue jacket

The man from Heemskerk is the third in line to distribute money in North Holland. Last Wednesday, at the food bank in Langedijk, 74 participants received an envelope with a Christmas message and 60 euros.

Earlier this month, around 30 people queuing up for the food bank in Hoorn were surprised. They were given an envelope with the contents (even 50 euros) by a stranger. “A respectable man, he wore a blue coat. I estimate him between 45 and 55 years old, like this one of Hoorn’s lucky recipients.

The name of Hoorn’s benefactor is also (therefore) unknown. The only thing Zandbergen knows about the IJmond food bank is that it concerns a different benefactor than his own food bank.
