Kondratyuk on withdrawing from the Russian championship: “We have decided not to risk our health. In a few days I will start attending New Year’s shows” – Figure skating

European figure skating champion Mark Kondratyuk explained why he withdrew from the free skate at the Russian championship in Krasnoyarsk.

“Unfortunately I had to withdraw from the free program of the Russian championship. I feel much better than in Samara, but the pain still prevents me from training at full capacity.

I really wanted to participate, it was our joint decision with Svetlana Vladimirovna (Sokolovskaya), but after the short program we realized that a back injury and a forced absence from the training process would not allow me to perform a free program. Together with the coaching staff, we decided not to risk our health.

In a few days, I will start attending New Year’s performances. I should, because a lot of people bought tickets, including for me, because people organized and staged the show. I can’t afford to disappoint so many people.

Performing in a show and in a competition is a completely different load, since I will not perform any difficult elements in the show. With my injury, light physical activity aids recovery, so my trainer and I think this will positively affect my back situation.

I once had a serious knee problem and being on the show gave me the opportunity to stay on the ice, try something close to the competitive nerve, and slowly get ready for the competition.

I will definitely be back, I just need some time to sort out a health problem that doesn’t allow me to drive as much as I would like! Thank you so much for your love, faith, empathy and support! I promise not to let you down!” Kondratyuk wrote in the Telegram channel.
