Fiom denounces Imperia&Monferrina layoffs

It will not be a merry Christmas for seven workers of ‘Imperia & Monferrina’ of Moncalieri who – according to what Fiom communicates in a press release released on the afternoon of Friday 23 December – would have received the dismissal procedure. According to the trade union acronym, the company – which has been involved in the production of machines for making pasta at home since 1932 – has launched a collective dismissal procedure for employees in the packaging department. The news came three days before Christmas.

‘Imperia & Monferrina’ has 66 employees who are spread over two plants, the Turin one is located in Moncalieri. The company carries out the design, production and marketing of pasta machines. The company – explains Fiom – would not have planned measures to deal with the social consequences of the layoffs and the mayor of Turin has requested a meeting to deal with the emergency.

“It is unacceptable that, a few days before Christmas, these families are thrown into the anguish of losing their jobs”, explains Maria Teresa Gobbato who follows Imperia & Monferrina for Fiom CGIL in Turin, “The industrial decision to close the packaging department is incomprehensible because it is necessary for the production cycle. We can only oppose the blindness of the operation with its serious consequences. We will put into practice all the necessary actions also involving the institutions to stop this unfortunate choice”.
