Twenty people have died in a fire at a rest home in Siberia, Russian authorities said. The fire was probably caused by improper use of a stove.
About 80 firefighters were deployed to the city of Kemerovo to put out the blaze in sub-zero temperatures. It is unclear how many people lived in the building.
The older homeless were also housed in the building. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, there was no permit for the building. The safety inspection was not allowed earlier this month.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the owner and manager of the property. The Kemerovo governor says all similar buildings will be inspected within a week.
