Action brutal shooting in the center of Paris, French killed three people and wounded three others. The perpetrator, a 69-year-old grandfather, is a retired engineer with a history of racist violence and gun violations.
The news agency reports it AFP extensionon Saturday (12/24/2022), the man opened fire on the Kurdish cultural and hairdressing center of Paris Friday (12/23) local time. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said whether Friday’s attack was motivated by racism “will certainly be part of our investigation”.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the man was “clearly targeting foreigners” but was “unsure” whether he intended to kill “particularly Kurds”.
Identified as “William M” by French media, the gunman stabbed at least two migrants at a migrant camp in Paris last year, police and judicial sources told AFP.
The man would also be accused of damaging several tents in the migrant camp in Bercy park Paris east on December 8, 2021.
In June 2016, he was convicted of armed violence by a court in Seine-Saint-Denis. A year later, he was sentenced to six months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, a judicial source told AFP.
He was reportedly a member of the shooting sports club.
After carrying out the shooting on Friday (12/23), the grandfather was taken to hospital for treatment for serious facial injuries after being arrested at the scene.
