The female candidates begin on Friday evening. All eight women have a chance to shine, after which they can expect comments from the judging panel. Also, the jury has very little power. They are only allowed to comment and advise the viewer at home. The audience at home ultimately decide which Danny and Sandy should go home. And it turns out to be unpredictable right away.
The 25-year-old Wendela doesn’t have much theater experience yet, which is why many viewers don’t think she’s suitable for the role of Sandy. The jury also mentions her inexperience. “It’s not that it was bad, but the standard is very high and you can’t reach it right now,” Jim Bakkum tells her. However, she can go on to the next round, and not everyone agrees on this.
The love story of Danny and Sandy is the longest running musical ever on Broadway. In 1978 the film was released on the big screen and with success. Several generations went to the cinema en masse. And today the story and the music are still a household name.
