The Flores family had hoped to enjoy Christmas in Ohio, but their flight was canceled due to a winter storm keeping New York state and much of the nation on high alert.
Amilcar Flores’ flight was canceled and when he arrived at the airport he discovered:
“A bit disappointed as I had already thought I was going on holiday for the week that I asked for time off from work and well I had alreadyI had every day already “fixed” for vacation but, well, that couldn’t be done.”
Flores says he discovered the cancellation when he arrived at the airport.
“They canceled our flight and no, we didn’t find anything, there was nothing available until the 31st,” he adds.
The city is on alert for strong winds and the drastic drop in temperatures caused by the storm.
Temperatures will drop to 20 degrees and with the wind factor they will feel below zero.
Because of this, thousands of flights nationwide have been canceled or delayed.
The recommendation for travelers is to check with their airlines, to verify the status of their flights, before going to the airport.
And as the storm rages, authorities are asking New Yorkers to avoid driving due to flood control.
The Lagunas family arrived at the airport five hours before starting their trip to Mexico, with one stopover. This will be the first Christmas in two years they will spend in their home country.
Saul Lagunas is another passenger who is waiting for his flight to depart: “Excited but with the fact that they are canceling a lot of flights, we don’t know, We will feel the emotion since we are sure we can go out today“
His wife Ayaney Lagunas says they have a lot of plans when they arrive:
“Everything, eat everything, see family, the most important thing”. Temperatures will continue to drop over the weekend and this Christmas is expected to be one of the coldest in decades.
