The Šilalė Wind Farm, which is being built very quickly, is already providing electricity

4 out of 12 turbines in the “Silalė II” wind farm of “EnefitGreen” are already rotating and producing electricity. When the power park, which is being built very quickly, reaches full capacity, it will produce 160 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually.

At the beginning of the summer, the foundations for the wind turbines were laid and the installation of the wind turbines began in July.

“We had a goal to start production as soon as possible so that we could offer more green energy to the market. It took just over a year from the start of construction to achieve this goal. For such a park, this is a time extremely short time.

We are now focused on further tests and are in a hurry to connect the remaining turbines to the grid so that the Šilalė II wind farm can produce electricity at full capacity,” says LauriUlm, Head of Wind Energy at EnefitGreen.

The construction of the “Šilalė II” wind farm started in 2021. in September, it is expected to be fully equipped in a couple of months, in 2023. in February, the total capacity of the park will reach 43 megawatts (MW) and the annual production of electricity will be 160 GWh.

The park will have a total of 12 General Electric wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW. The diameter of the blades of these turbines reaches 138 m, and the generators are located at a height of 131 m. The highest point of the wind turbine – measuring the distance from the tip of the blade to the ground – is about 200 m.

“Šilalė II”‒ the first of four wind farms currently under construction by EnefitGreen, which has started producing electricity. Soon after, the Purtse Power Plant in Estonia will start producing electricity, followed by the 75 MW Akmenė Power Plant, and next year in 2023. at the end of the ‒ 72 MW Tolpanvaara Power Plant in Finland.

Together, these parks will add more than 700 GWh of renewable electricity to the regional electricity market.
