UAE billionaire Khalaf Al Habtoor, founder and chairman of Al Habtoor Group, has spoken out in support of Afghan students. Khalaf Al Habtoor announced that 100 Afghan female students will have the opportunity to complete their studies in Dubai. The announcement came after the Taliban denied schoolgirls an education.
The Taliban government in Kabul has declared that female students will not be able to study in Afghan universities until further notice. The Taliban’s decision to ban female students has been globally condemned by various countries, including the UAE.
‘It is unfortunate and sad that Afghan female students are being denied university education. Away from political stance, I am ready to provide 100 female students with the opportunity to complete their studies in Dubai universities in cooperation with relevant official authorities.’ Al Habtoor tweeted.
Previously, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar was banned by the Taliban. The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Ahmed al-Tayeb, has also expressed concern.
