Dahmen: Put on more masks again
The Greens’ health policy spokesman in the Bundestag, Janosch Dahmen, is promoting the more frequent use of masks in view of the spread of the coronavirus in China and the high level of sick leave in this country. It is “important to use the mask much more indoors, completely independent of the applicable rules,” Dahmen told Publishing Network Germany (RND). The current legal framework means that federal states are introducing stricter rules. “I find it very strange, not only as a politician but also as a doctor, that almost ten million sick Germans still don’t use it at the moment,” says Dahmen. In view of the surge of infections in China, he warned: “A large number of infections also means a greater chance of the virus mutating.”

CDU politicians: Stop air connections with China due to Corona
Due to the massive wave of coronavirus in China, the Union faction’s foreign policy spokesman, Jürgen Hardt, is calling for the interruption of air connections with the People’s Republic. “The explosion in the Covid numbers in China caused by the Chinese government’s failed policy on the coronavirus is threatening the whole world with a new wave of infections,” the CDU deputy told the Germany (RND) editorial network. “We must not repeat the mistake of three years ago and now we should immediately stop all air connections to and from China.” The opposition politician added: “Only when we are sure that there is no threat of a new, dangerous mutation from China should we resume air links”.
Since the explosive increase in corona infections and the abrupt end of China’s strict zero tolerance strategy two weeks ago, the virus has spread at a high speed among billions of people. In many places the hospitals are full. According to estimates, hundreds of thousands of deaths are expected.

RKI: Seven-day national incidence at 258.5
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has the national incidence of seven days given as 258.5 this morning. Yesterday the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 254.3 (previous week: 247.8; previous month: 177.9). In one day, 41,431 new corona infections (yesterday: 47,988; previous week: 40,701) and 187 deaths (yesterday: 178; previous week: 143) were recorded.
Note on current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the contagion situation. Experts assume a large number of cases go unrecorded by the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have had a PCR test done. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. Furthermore, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of the individual daily values. In general, the number of newly recorded infections varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to the RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
