Young New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson may have played his part against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his lackluster performance in a 19-3 loss certainly didn’t help his case Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

This duel was also that of the first two players selected in the 2021 draft. Let’s say that Jaguars pivot Trevor Lawrence is in better shape after two seasons than poor Wilson.
The latter was benched in the third quarter in favor of Chris Streveler. The offense had come up short so far, aside from an early field goal, and Wilson had completed only nine of 18 passes in addition to being the victim of one interception.
Lawrence was responsible for the only touchdown of the game. Early in the second quarter, the Clemson University alum vaulted over a human wall to cross the end zone with a one-yard run.
The visiting quarterback completed 20 of 31 aerial throws for 229 yards.
The Jets absolutely had to get back on the field to hope to score points at the end of the game. Garrett Wilson caught Zach Wilson’s 40-yard pass for the Jets, but when he was tackled, Foyesade Oluokun forced a fumble and Tre Herndon recovered the ball. The “Jags” had just a little ground to make up for Riley Patterson to score his fourth field goal of the night.
It was the final nail in the coffin for the hosts, who couldn’t avoid a fourth consecutive defeat. The Jets (7-8) also drop below .500 for the first time in 2022.
The Jaguars (7-8) had a strong run closing in on the Tennessee Titans (7-7) at the top of the AFC Southern Division.
