France has slaughtered 2 million birds and wants to vaccinate in 2023

Paris, 22 Dec. The French government announced on Thursday that it had culled two million birds in December due to avian flu, bringing the total figure to 3.3 million, showing its intention to start vaccinating against this animal epidemic in the fall of 2023 .

The Ministry of Agriculture indicated in a statement that the situation has not stopped worsening since last August and “has worsened in recent weeks”, with a hundred outbreaks in farms and an increase in cases in wildlife.

More than half of the domestic cases are in the Pays de la Loire region in the western part of the country, where its spread is more favorable due to the high bird density, he added. In total, France has 226 outbreaks.

Since November 11, the country has been in a “high” risk situation, forcing all the country’s birds to be placed under surveillance and shelter, while the masses of these species are limited.

The will to vaccinate faces the difficulty that there is, for now, a sufficiently effective vaccine against bird flu that has the necessary licenses for sale.

The first results of the tests should be known in March, even if for now they look “encouraging”, according to the Ministry. EFE extension
