A third installment of Pokémon Pinball was in development for the Nintendo DS, though it was ultimately canceled and never saw the light of day.
Pokémon is one of the longest running and most successful franchises on the international gaming scene and is currently in very good health, after breaking all records with the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple. Now, all eyes are on what the Game Freak team will do for 2023, even if the leaks indicate a DLC capable of expanding the story of what has already been seen in the Paldea region with the ninth generation. However, it is possible that a spin off is also underway and information has recently been released on one of them that was canceled a few years ago.
Pokémon Pinball was one of the most popular spin-offs in the gaming community, which is why it had a second installment after the arrival of the third generation. Since, it was forgotten by Game Freak and Nintendo, despite the fact that other spin offs of the license have been reported in recent years, which is why fans do not lose hope of seeing a new installment on the Nintendo Switch. However, a third title already existed for the Nintendo DS, following the launch of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Pinball was a reality, even if it never saw the light of day
After the first two installments of the Pokémon spin-off that mixed the capture and evolution mechanics with pinball, the third proposal had been developed by Fuse Gamesresponsible for other works such as Mario Pinball Land and Metroid Prime Pinball, as told in an interview with artist Matthew Nightingale, conducted by You knew the game. Apparently, with this new installment they were looking for a more revolutionary formula, which also included battles against familiar characters from the fourth generation.
Secondly, there was a test that the team presented to Nintendo and The Pokemon Company in which the team at Fuse Games brought three core aspects of the game to the table, which included one level of travel, another of city or country, and finally, a gym. However, the game never surpassed this prototype, and the company went out of business in 2009, so the project was never heard from again. Without a doubt, Pokémon Pinball Diamond and Pearl had it great ideas that could be revived in a return in style on Nintendo Switchwhich has already happened with other spin offs such as Pokémon Snap.
