Volodymyr Zelensky did not come to Washington empty handed. Invited by Joe Biden to the White House this Wednesday on the occasion of a historic visit, the Ukrainian president handed over a symbolic object to his American counterpart after speaking with him in the Oval Office. It is a medal, and more precisely a military merit cross, given to him the day before by a Ukrainian soldier while he was traveling to the front in Bakhmout.

Volodymyr Zelensky called the captain operating an American rocket launcher system “real hero.” “He told me “Give It to the President”“, said the Ukrainian president, handing Joe Biden the decoration kept in a velvet-lined box.
