Giel Beelen became the winner of the Marconi Oeuvre Award this year. Former 3FM colleague Gerard Ekdom surprised NPO Radio 2 DJ on his evening show with the award on Wednesday night.
The judging panel said in the report that Beelen is “a monstrous talent” who “rises above himself time and time again”. “Behind his name there are countless radio programs with numerous highlights. At night, in the morning or in the evening: at any time he knows how to prove himself and shows that radio is more than just a chat picture. A broadcast by Giel it’s never standard. As a listener you’re constantly curious as to what’s going to happen.”
The 45-year-old Beelen has won the Marconi Award four times, always for best presenter. He won’t be heard on the radio for next year. Beelen is going on a world tour.
The other awards, the Marconi Award for best broadcaster and emerging talent, will be awarded on January 26 during the RadioRing gala.
