MU reaches the quarter-finals after defeating Burnley

Manchester

Manchester United drove to 2022/2023 Carabao Cup Fifth round. This was after the Red Devils loss Burnley 2-0.

In the fourth round or top 16 match at Old Trafford, Thursday (22/12/2022) early morning WIB, MU scored in each round of Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford.

MU is just waiting for the draw to determine their opponent in the fifth round or it can be called the quarter-final stage.

The course of the match MU v Burnley

MU fielded most of its best players, including those who just returned from World Cup 2022such as Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford.

MU pressed Burnley from the start and repeatedly created dangerous opportunities. Alejandro Garnacho in the eighth minute had a chance.

Starting from a Burnley backline error, Fernandes easily passed the ball to Garnacho, but the young Argentinian player’s shot was cleared by Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

MU kept pressing to find a goal and it was only achieved in the 27th minute. Eriksen got his name on the scoreboard when he fouled Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross in front of goal.

The 1-0 win made MU all the more eager to put pressure on Burnley and look for further goals. However, Martin Dubravka’s protected MU goal nearly missed due to a mistake by the Slovakian goalkeeper in the 36th minute.

The corner ball was not properly secured by Dubravka and created chaos in front of goal. The ball goes into an empty net, but Casemiro immediately blocks it.

Anthony Martial had a chance to score in the 40th minute with a curling shot, but Peacock-Farrell managed to clear it away.

Early in the second half, MU still dominated and had a chance in the 50th minute through Scott McTominay, who started the first half but went wide.

Rashford doubled MU’s lead in the 57th minute. The break began with McTominay’s pass to Rashford, who ran down the right.

Rashford continued to carry the ball into the Burnley penalty area and tricked a player before setting the ball at the far post beyond Peacock-Farrell’s reach.

Burnley tried to find goals but it was always in vain due to MU’s tight defence. An opportunity for the guests in the 68th minute with Darko Churlinov, but still wide.

Likewise with Ashley Barnes’ opportunity in the 82nd minute which was still wide of the target.

Antony, who had just come on as a substitute, had the chance to score the third goal in the 85th minute, if Peacock-Farrell hadn’t blocked his shot.

The 2-0 score lasted until the match MU v Burnley complete.
