It seems the impressive standards presented by the Morocco national team in the 2022 World Cup and its fourth-place finish have become a curse for French club Angers, as French media revealed on Wednesday that Moroccan duo Azzedine Onahi and Sofiane Boufal do not believe they to be players in the ranks of the humble team.
Onahi and Boufal shone at the 2022 World Cup and attracted attention, especially the former, which surprised Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique, who praised him highly after Morocco’s victory over Spain in the final penalty shootout .
According to leading French newspaper L’Equipe, Onahi and Boufal will not appear in Angers’ match against Ajaccio later this month, as they want to leave before this date.
According to the newspaper, the club does not mind their departure in exchange for a good sum of money, especially from Onahi (22), as it has been reported that many European clubs are looking to sign him, including Barcelona.
Onahi moved to Angers in the summer of last year for €350,000, and has a contract with him until mid-2026, while Boufal still has a year and a half left on his contract.
Onahi played 14 games for Angers in the French league before shining in Qatar, while Boufal played 11 games, during which time he scored 3 goals.
