Accident at Escher-Wyss-Platz in Zurich: The emergency services set up a white tent.
At around 8:15 on Wednesday, the operations center of the Zurich municipal police received a report of a lifeless child at Escher-Wyss-Platz. The forces of the Zurich Municipal Police and Protection & Rescue Zurich met a boy who had already died at the scene.
According to the first investigations, the traffic police hypothesize a road accident. The cause of the accident and the course of the accident are not clear, as the Zurich municipal police writes in a statement. It is also unclear who else was involved in the crash.
According to Kate M.* (22), who works in a hairdressing salon on Escher-Wyss-Platz, a white tent was put up right next to a tram. Everything around was cordoned off. No trams are running at the moment.
According to eyewitnesses, the mother collapsed when she found out what happened on the spot.
No pedestrian accidents for five years
There is a crosswalk near the crash site. There are two lanes for cars, which soon narrow into one lane. Is there an increased risk of accidents here?
When asked by Blick, Nadja Häberli, communications officer in the traffic department, explains that so far there was no reason for such an assumption: “Over the past five years there have been no police-registered pedestrian accidents there.” As a result, the location was not a black spot from the accident that required special analysis.
However, the question is not eaten: “The ongoing investigation into the tragic accident will show if and what measures are necessary to make the place safer for pedestrians”.
Large-scale isolation
Specialists from the Technical Accident Service and the Zurich Forensic Institute were employed to provide comprehensive evidence. Clarification of the cause of death is carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
The area around Escher-Wyss-Platz was cordoned off over a large area. Traffic will be diverted. Relatives, passers-by and emergency services receive psychological assistance.
The Zurich Municipal Police declined to provide further information on the identity of the deceased boy, such as age and nationality, upon request. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to come forward.
