Music in St. Marien

glazed exterior. The music series “Musik in St. Marien” starts the 2023 season right at the start of the new year with a gospel choir concert. Due to the ongoing closure of the St. Marien parish church, the concert was moved to the nearby rectory. The hall offers a welcoming and familiar atmosphere.

Founded in 1996 as a Catholic youth choir, the Modern Church Choir of Nalbach has become one of the most renowned gospel choirs in the region. The choir currently consists of 50 active singers with their own band and maintains the African American gospel tradition. The repertoire includes classic gospels, rock, soulful songs, soulful ballads and modern German anthems.

With its lively and swinging performances, the choir always manages to transfer its joie de vivre to the audience and make them sing and clap – a real feast for all the senses! The protagonist of the events is the musical director Thomas Klein, who has been writing the arrangements and conducting the choir with great commitment for 26 years.

The Modern Church Choir considers itself a purely amateur choir which rehearses once a week. The members maintain an active choral life, the cohesion is high, the fluctuation low, even new members could be won over during the Corona times.

The choir appears at numerous concerts and inspires its audience at public events, such as recently on the SR stage in “Sing City”, the “long night of churches” and at private celebrations. With renowned artists such as Howard Carpendale and Stefan Gwildis, the choir has already been able to prove its capabilities.

Admission to the concert is free – donations are welcome. red./jb
