Christmas Eve 2022 falls on a Saturday, always unfavorable, because the Christmas journey to loved ones takes place in a few days. Therefore, the ADAC warns of impending avalanches on the highways.
Relaxation invites on Christmas Eve, at least in terms of traffic: according to the ADAC, it should be quiet overall on the main roads. This also applies to Christmas Day (December 25).
Since Monday afternoon (December 26), however, slow traffic is threatening again according to the ADAC. After all, many Christmas vacationers return home after visiting relatives and families. However, the traffic volume shouldn’t be as strong as it was at the start of the Christmas weekend.
The winter sports traffic in the direction of the Alpine countries is expected to be slightly lower overall this winter season than in pre-Corona times. Ski holidays are considerably more expensive than in previous years and due to the general energy crisis, several ski areas have increased their prices.

In Switzerland, longer waiting times must be expected on the Gotthard line, on the access roads to the ski areas of Graubünden, the Bernese Oberland, Valais and Central Switzerland, as well as at the car loading stations in Furka, Lötschberg and Vereina . And in Italy, in addition to the via del Brennero, the roads for the Val Pusteria, Gardena and Badia and for the Val Venosta are most at risk.
