There is concern over a raging fire that is devouring an important green area in the region.
A few days ago, citizens on social media reported a serious fire that broke out in the well-known hills of Gualandy, exactly in the hamlet of Calabozo Adentro in the municipality of Coello.
The flames, very visible at night, especially by travelers entering and leaving Ibagué, have frightened the population for the time they have consumed the flora and fauna of the area, apparently without making great efforts to stop them. .
“The hills of Gualandy are still burning, it’s been 5 days. And the community’s effort to make an environmental tragedy visible was not enough. Although they have managed to partially reduce the flames, the fire continues to spread, killing the flora and fauna of the country. Please help us spread this communication. Help us save endangered species and people’s lives. Since the fire is near the Gualandy tunnels,” wrote user Angela Casallas via Facebook, as a message of help.
Faced with the situation, the Colombian Red Cross has posted on its networks that the case has been monitored since Sunday, even if the flames continue their course. “Since Sunday 18 December, our Coello Support Group has been monitoring the plant fire that occurs on top of the blades of the hills heading towards Gualandy. Helicopter support was provided today to assist with the fire,” they said.
