The La Cocoş supermarket in Bucharest has been closed by the National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC), after inspectors said that several irregularities had been found, including dirt and food products sold without Romanian translation, reports News. ro. The unit was also fined 20,000 lei. The supermarket was known by Bucharest residents for its low prices compared to those of famous supermarket chains.
ANPC reported on Tuesday that the capital’s economic operator SC Supermarket La Cocos SRL was audited.
The control teams discovered several irregularities, including: the sale of prepackaged food products with the lack of information translated into Romanian; the use of unhygienic refrigeration units, with accumulations of liquids, ice, food residues, areas with peeling paint, accumulations of rust and dust; flooring with missing/broken/cracked tiles and accumulations of impurities, coarse layer of dust, remains of packaging in the area of shelves and stands for the presentation of some products.
Additionally, there were massive accumulations of dust along the entire length of the ventilation system piping, and there were prepackaged food products sold with damaged packaging or with massive accumulations of ice on and inside the packaging.
The unit was fined 20,000 lei and has been closed until the deficiencies are remedied. At the same time, a proposal was made to close it for up to six months.
