Time creates problems: – Something so incredibly fluid

Håvard Selstad’s return home tonight took time. He tried to drive home from Kongsberg to Vestfossen, but rain and cold cut short the car journey, which should have taken around 20 minutes.

– There’s something so incredibly smooth about it. I should have been home an hour and a half ago, Selstad says when Dagbladet calls.

– It wasn’t often this bad

On the way, Selstad saw both trucks and cars going off the road.

– I only got stuck in the queue after a truck and a car went off the road, says Selstad.

Drammens Tidende was in contact with Selstad before. He thought he could try an alternate route home, but a truck had pulled out and was across the street there too, so that didn’t work either.

– But I still think it was too slippery there for me to climb, says Selstad.

When he spoke to Drammens Tidende speaking of tonight’s challenges, he said he had thought about going to Biltema to buy a chain.

When Dagbladet calls, the chain has been bought, but he’s still in line and hoping the rainy weather will soon stop.

— I’ve lived here for 11 years, so I’m pretty used to really freezing winter weather, but it’s not often that it’s been as bad as it is now, she says.

– Leave the car stationary

The mild weather took its toll on driving conditions over the past couple of days and made roads slippery in both the south and east and west.

In front of Dagbladet, traffic operator Christofa Key-Nilsen at Vegtrafikksentralen öst can also say that there are many incoming reports about difficult traffic conditions this evening.

– It’s raining a lot. On the main roads it’s mostly fine, but on the smaller ones it gets very, very slippery. Then there will be particularly difficult conditions, says the traffic operator.

He goes on to say that they have contractors out to take measures in several places, but that it’s limited how effective they will be as long as the rain continues.

– The measures that are being taken do not help much since the time is now. It’s really a bit hopeless right now.

So encourage all those who don’t have to go out by car to stay at home.

– If you don’t have to drive today, I encourage you to leave the car until the worst weather has passed, says Key-Nilsen.

He also says there is hope that tomorrow will be less challenging.

– Fingers crossed

Starting in the middle of the last week of Advent, it is expected to get colder in much of the country. Selstad also hopes they are right.

– Fingers crossed it will be minus five, so there will be slightly more decent driving conditions.

Now he’s back in line and doesn’t know exactly how long it will be to get home, but he hopes the rain is easing.

– It’s quiet at the moment, but they’re probably around, so it probably won’t be long, says Selstad.

When Dagbladet gets in touch shortly after, he has finally returned home, just under two hours later than expected.
