The Arizona government has announced it has backed down on a controversial measure ordering the placement of shipping containers to fill gaps in the construction of the border wall with Mexico.
This measure was an executive order sent by Governor Doug Ducey last August to prevent the crossing of migrants from Mexico to the United States.
Ducey’s order to place the containers came just after US President Joe Biden canceled the continuation of the Wall in southern Arizona, as approved by former President Donald Trump.
However, after a lawsuit filed by the US government, Arizona has promised to remove the containers that are part of the border wall with Mexico as soon as possible.
“Positioning shipping containers as a barrier has always been a temporary solution until the federal government erects a permanent solution,” argued Annie Foster, general counsel in Governor Doug Ducey’s office, as part of the announcement .
The metal barrier imposed by the Arizona government was made up of 60 welded shipping containers that measured more than twenty feet and were “armored” with barbed wire. This initiative was also born as a measure against what they called the Biden government’s “inactions” on migration.

However, the Arizona government added that while it will participate in the removal of the containers, it is owed a timetable to continue with the outstanding holes in the border wall.
The Arizona government also said it has consistently joined with federal authorities to support and work on the border crisis between the two countries, in which the main focus is the growing migration of Mexicans, Central Americans and Venezuelans.
Furthermore, he denied that the containers constituted a risk to the environment, as many government organizations have accused and which, on the contrary, have given them great results to regain control in the border area.
